Awards and Recognition
PRINT THIS ARTICLERecognising a student’s efforts and achievements is central to raising their self-esteem and sense of connectedness. We encourage all students at St Leo’s to perform their best, and actively encourage, support, recognise and celebrate their achievement and growth in all areas.
Our graded, progressive system of Merit Awards recognises student effort and achievement, giving them instant and regular encouragement. We celebrate more significant awards at special assemblies each semester to recognise students’ sustained efforts and achievements in a variety of areas.
Student Leadership
St Leo’s gives our students opportunities to develop as leaders, and prepare them to make a positive difference to the world. Every St Leo’s student is encouraged to show initiative and exhibit leadership in everything they do. By Year 12, every student is considered a leader at the school, and is expected to act as a role model for others in the school community.
Students can nominate, and be nominated for, varied leadership positions throughout their time at the College.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) provides formal leadership opportunities for students in Years 7–11. Students in the Senior School can take on roles as Student Mentors and Peer Support Leaders. At the end of Year 11, students are invited to apply to be a prefect in Year 12. Prefects take on roles within specific ministries, or act as House Captains. From the Prefect group, College Captains, Vice Captains and SRC Presidents are elected.
Our focus on developing leaders of the future means our graduates are confident, competent, Catholic-valued young men and women of conscience, ready to make a positive difference to the world.
