The College Library is a reading, research and social hub of the school. Students are welcome to browse, relax and read a variety of magazines and newspapers and to work on assignments or homework. Students may bring their own laptop or use one of the library computers. One of our main goals is to develop and encourage in all students skills to locate and use information of all kinds. The enjoyment of reading, and the skill of sustained reading, is fostered through the Wide Reading Program which runs through the library for students in Years 7 to 10. Students participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the St Leo’s Reading Challenge. Their reading efforts are recognised through certificates and pizza lunches.
The College Library supports the Mission Statement of the College by:
- Encouraging each student to fulfil their academic and personal potential in a positive and supportive quality learning environment
- Encouraging each student to develop skills for independent, lifelong learning
- Providing students with access to resources which will help them to make informed and responsible judgements on issues affecting their own lives and their future role as citizens in a democratic society
The Library computers offer access to the catalogue of library resources and a large number of relevant websites. The library homepage has links to selected subscription databases such as Elibrary (newspapers and magazines such as Sydney Morning Herald), WorldBook and Science and History Reference Centres.
