Catholic schools in the Diocese of Broken Bay exist to educate and form young people in Catholic discipleship: offering them experiences of following Jesus as members of the Catholic community and offering students the opportunity to freely respond to the Gospel.
St Leo’s Catholic College exists to provide the best possible faith, learning and growth environment for the College community. The College motto, Lex Dei in Corde – God’s Law in the Heart calls us to follow God’s Law, witnessed by Christ, to “love one another as I have loved you”. As such, St Leo’s is an inclusive community, which respects and values the diversity of each of its members.
The religious dimension of the College is a shared partnership between families, parish communities and the school. Family and friends are encouraged to join in the many events that occur during the year when the College gathers together to celebrate Sacramentally in Masses, Liturgies, religious festivals and end-of-year Graduations.
The College mission statement expresses our commitment to the formation of confident, competent, Catholic young men and women of conscience. Our overall focus is with the development of the whole person – spiritually, academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
The Religious Education curriculum has a developmental programme of study from Years 7 – 12 aimed at developing in each student a greater awareness of the Catholic heritage, the teachings of our Christian faith and the implications of this in modern life. The curriculum is implemented in a dynamic manner that meets the needs of Twenty First Century learners and empowers students to make a positive difference in the world.
The College has a dedicated Youth Ministry program that invites students to become involved in a variety of activities that allow them to grow in faith and exercise Christian leadership. This program encompasses a wide range of areas, from structured sacramental instruction through to personal reflection on the world around them.
The prayer and liturgical life of the College is integral to its identity as a Catholic school. Eucharist is celebrated by our local priests in our beautiful and historic College Chapel each week and all members of the community are invited to attend.
Spirituality is fostered through a comprehensive prayer, liturgical and retreat program, which provides students with an experience of community and relationships through relaxation, fun, prayer and discussion. Retreat and Reflection Day programmes are designed to help our young men and women grow in faith and explore spirituality in modern day life as they journey toward adulthood.
St Leo’s Catholic College Prayer
God of love and understanding, You are the source of strength and inspiration. You called Pope Saint Leo the Great to guide your people by his word and example. We ask you to fill our community with the spirit of respect and dignity. Guide us in the light of your truth. May we grow in purpose and learning, And proclaim your wisdom to the world. Give us courage and hope to face the unknown. May we be faithful to God’s law in our hearts And live with the peace of the Holy Spirit. God help us to bear witness To the mystery of the cross and resurrection So we may be people of integrity and justice, Walking in the footsteps of Christ your Son. Amen
